It was five years ago at ACE14 that HYMAX launched one of its most innovative products in the company’s history – the HYMAX GRIP coupling. The product gave installers a new option to restrain pipe connections easily and quickly without rodding or thrust blocks. Since then, the HYMAX GRIP has grown from a single product to an entire product family for any restraint application (see left, ACE19 HYMAX GRIP diplay).
We’ve got your angle
Pipes that connect at angles often need to be restrained, many times with thrust blocks. Over the last five years, HYMAX has developed three products to restrain pipes at angles.
New at ACE19, HYMAX will display the HYMAX GRIP-T which can connect three pipes, each with a HYMAX GRIP connection (see left), or one that connects two pipes with a HYMAX GRIP and a third with a flange adaptor (see right). The HYMAX GRIP-T is ideal for connecting mains to fire hydrants, or connecting a pipe that branches out to another pipe or component at a 90o angle. These products will be available for ordering soon.
The HYMAX GRIP SwivelJoint can connect and restrain two pipes at any angle from 0° to 90°, providing an efficient solution for any field situation or irregular angle between pipes.
The HYMAX GRIP Elbow can connect pipes at either a 45- or 90-degree angle (see left 90-degree version).
Bigger with More Gripping Power
While the original HYMAX GRIP was designed for OD’s of 1.5 to 12”, there was a need for even greater restraining power for larger sized pipes. The R&D team at HYMAX got to work and created the HYMAX GRIP large diameter products for pipes sized 14” and 16”, the first restraint products of their size. These products can exert gripping power on connecting pipes equal to 70 tons (!) on each side. The HYMAX GRIP 14” and 16” feature four top-facing bolts and a stab-fit, one-piece design for easy and fast installation, making repairs safer with less time spent in the ditch.
It’s All About Adapting
Installers are dealing with all kinds of piping connection. That’s why HYMAX developed HYMAX GRIPs with flange adapters and a mechanical joint. The HYMAX Flange Adaptor is available with an oval flange (sizes 1.5″ and 2.5″), a round flange (sizes 1.5″ and 3″) and standard flange (sizes 4″ to 12″). An open bore solution (see left) will be on diplay at ACE19 and available for ordering soon.
The HYMAX GRIP Cut-in Sleeve is the first transition coupling that can connect to a mechanical joint while restraining the connecting plain pipe with only one bolt to tighten. The HYMAX GRIP technology allows the connecting plain-end pipe to be adjusted as needed, saving time on cutting and installing extra pipe.
While all of these HYMAX GRIPs are different, they deliver unmatched performance with their patented universal gripping teeth. They all feature ready-to-use, stab-fit designs with one to four top facing bolts for easier, faster and safer installation. All GRIPs have Hymax’s patented hydraulic assisted gasket allowing for flexible connections that can absorb 4 degrees of dynamic pipe deflection, reducing the risk of future pipe damage.
