HYMAX Employee Q&A: Joe Etchegaray

We caught up with Texas territory sales manager Joe Etchegaray to do a Q&A about water, life and the Lone Star State.

Q: What do you do at Hymax USA, Joe?

A: I’m responsible for sales as the territory sales manager for the state of Texas. I like to think that we help keep the water flowing for the 28.7M residents are spread out over 268,597 square miles of the Lone Star State.  My focus is to educate our distributors, end-users and engineering community on the improved ways to repair and connect pipe so that our infrastructure will last for many years to come.  With the support of our management and engineering personnel, I have identified existing problematic areas within the water and wastewater community, including a wastewater facility in northern Texas.

Q: What’s your experience in the field?

A: I have been involved in the water and wastewater market for the past 20 years, working with plant personnel and engineers to solve problems, provide better solutions and implement plant automation.  That could include retrofitting, new construction or simply providing information. I have been able to assist in some of the more challenging aspects of treating water.  Having started with Hymax USA in late March 2017, I can continue helping the industry by offering new solutions to the old problems that exist within our aging infrastructure.

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time away from HYMAX?

A: Like most Texans, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, playing golf, racing cars and trying to find a bourbon that I don’t like.  When I’m not doing any of those things, I help my wife with her homework (by staying very quiet at home), I counsel my son as he prepares for Marine Corps bootcamp, and I help my daughter as she continues learning to be a water treatment operator.  That being said…remember, “the early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.”

Thanks for the words of wisdom, Joe. We’ll catch up with you later.

Joe with his daughter Dani (middle) and wife, Melissa.
